• Design and implement moderately complex features with minimal supervision
• Contribute to system design discussions and provide input on architecture decisions
• Actively use AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate development — scaffolding features, writing tests, reviewing code, and debugging
• Leverage AI tooling to iterate quickly, reduce boilerplate, and ship production-ready code at higher velocity
• Critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and adherence to team standards before merging
• Debug and troubleshoot efficiently, with well-reasoned solutions
• Object-oriented language experience — Python or Java preferred
• Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI coding assistants as a core part of daily workflow
• Comfort operating in an AI-augmented engineering environment where both speed and quality bars are high
• Ability to write precise, effective prompts to get production-quality AI output
• Microservices experience
• Strong, current Java depth; core backend engineering fundamentals and experience with scalable systems
• Hands-on database/JDBC integration experience in a production environment
• Use AI tools daily as a productivity layer
• Generate first drafts of code, tests, docs, and design proposals via AI
• Know how to decompose tasks so AI assistance is genuinely effective
• Understand the limits of AI-generated code — reviewing for correctness, security gaps, and technical debt
